Listen to the Music (tag Gabs)
« Thread Started on Jan 10, 2009, 11:34am »

Silvia closed her eyes before she allowed her fingers to touch the keys of the pianoforte that was in front of her. There was a part of her that hoped that Gabriel would either stay away for the rest of the day, or die a terrible horrible death. Because the time that he was gone, actually gave her time to figure out a way to remove his presence out of her life...that of decide exactly where she should send him. At the moment however, she went out of her way to make sure that DIDN'T have to deal with the man. Because the truth of the matter was that she just didn't want to deal with the man at the moment. She had two options. She could either send him back to London, which wasn't a good idea seeing as though she didn't completely trust him. Or, she could send the man to Tortuga to search for Sparrow or one of the Turners. She had already decided that she didn't want him close to any clues about Norrington having a younger sister. No, if she was able to then she would not use the woman as a pawn at the moment. Therefore, she didn't want Gabriel looking for the woman.

But, am I certain that I am ready at this moment to meet with the ones who are responsible for the deaths of those that meant something to me?

As the music started to surround her, Silvia sill knew that she needed to remain ahead of the man known as Gabriel, and figure out exactly what the mysterious letter delivered to her by someone named Falcon meant. Not to mention that she needed to know who she could trust, even though she was certain that she couldn't trust Gabriel or Farnsworth, and that included those blasted pirates. As the tempo that she was playing increased, Silvia started to wonder if there was even anybody that she could trust. After all, the two people that she knew without a doubt that she could trust were killed by pirates, and the man that she was supposed to be able to trust with the safety or not only her children but herself as well was starting to make her regret listening to her cousin. The very man who had told her that Gabriel's stay in her life would only be temporary. She stopped playing and opened her eyes. If there was one thing that she was certain of at the moment it would have to be the fact that she wanted them back.

She then smiled to herself. She needed to send a message to those pirates, to let them know that they were not as safe as they thought they were, and one that would never forget. She then frowned, and without turning around let out a brief sigh. "It is quite rude to spy on someone, Gabriel." As she said that, Silvia fought to keep the anger out of her voice.

Ever since Gabriel had returned to Yorkshire he had been burdened with affairs surrounding Cutler Beckett’s death and The East India Trading Company. Didn’t people realize that he had already been speaking in London to address the issue? And now he had to contend with the preparations of Cutler Beckett’s funeral. The way that it was being handled one would have thought it were The King that had died.

I would rather being throwing mud into his grave then flowers and spit on it.

As he walked through the mansion his ears suddenly picked up the faint sound of a pianoforte. In the brief time of being employed by Cutler Beckett he had come to recognize the sound of his playing. There was one particular piece that he seemed to always play and that was what he was hearing now.

Surely it cannot be a ghost? Isabel said that his soul was trapped.

Walking toward the room where the music was coming from he stopped as he saw the figure at the pianoforte. As he saw the elaborate dress it told him that this was definitely not a ghost but rather the wife of Cutler Beckett. It shouldn’t have surprised him that Beckett had passed on his talent to his wife. Or perhaps she just knew how to play that particular piece? A smirk came across his face as he studied Silvia from the back.

You may be my enemy Cutler Beckett but I surely cannot disagree with your choice in women. It shall indeed be my pleasure to assist your POOR grieving widow.

Gabriel then jumped slightly and cleared his throat as he heard Silvia’s voice. However when he answered her it was in a calm tone. “My apologies Lady Beckett. I was merely….enthralled with the notes that were escaping from the pianoforte and forgot my manners. May I say that it is relief to know that you have such…acute senses for instances that may involve danger.”

If you remembered who my cousin was, then you wouldn't be so surprised, Gabriel. It's just a bit too bad that it's way to early for you to know what exactly he taught me.

Without answering him, Silvia turned back towards the pianoforte. To tell the truth, she had learnt to play that particular piece listening to her husband. Although, he actually did teach her to play, her true talent was in the violin, and nothing would change that. She had originally come into this room in order to avoid the very man who was once again intruding on her privacy. It was unexpected that she had sat in front of this instrument and started to play. It didn't actually matter why she had done such a thing, especially since she had been avoiding this room after Cutler and her cousin had returned to Port Royal. It was mainly because of the memories that the room held, none of which she would ever tell Gabriel Pennington about. She raised her hand like she was about to start playing again, but lowered them with a resigned sigh. It was no use, Gabriel Pennington's spying and intruding on her had severally ruined the mood and everything else that she had felt. The only thing that remained while this man was around was her hatred.

She didn't even know why he had done such a thing. She had already been informed that her wishes concerning her husband's funeral were going as planned. She would begin planning her cousin's shortly after. Only because she didn't even know if he would've wanted one, but because of the fact that he was loyal to her husband. He deserved one, even if she hated him at the moment.

She slowly turned to face Gabriel, before giving him a brief nod. She needed to find a way to remove this man from their lives as soon as possible. The longer he remained, the more danger he posed to her children. [/i] Or, perhaps hearing me play has a different effect on you. I wonder if it'll drive you insane if I play while you are supposed to be sleeping.[/i]

"You seem to have forgotten who my cousin was." She frowned as she stated those words. "I trust the preparations are going well. As well as the other thing we discussed just in case any pirates decide to show up." She was of course hoping that at least one pirate would be that stupid. But, if not then she could always go with the 'send Gabriel to Tortuga and hope he gets killed' plan. Then again, there was always something that she could have him do that would send him hopefully far away.

“Your cousin?” Gabriel asked before giving a silent huff. “Ah yes of course. Now how could I forget the infamous Mercer? He is not only a cousin to you but was also Lord Beckett’s assistant and one of England’s finest assassins.”

Or he was until I took his place.

“Yes, the preparations are going well indeed. I assure you that some of the best arrangers of funerals are being used for this task. It shall be a service fitting one of royalty. No expense was spared as you requested. In…regards to security it shall be some of the finest. You need not fear that pirates shall be unwelcomed guests. They shall not even make it to shore. There shall be ships anchored off shore and surrounding the vicinity with loaded cannons and thousands of soldiers. If any pirate ship or one of unknown origin enters the water it shall be dealt with by force. As in the instance with guests that become rude or unruly. Nothing shall be amiss with this funeral, Lady Beckett.”

Then I shall see about preparations to send these children away. Of course it shall be for their own good.

“If you do not mind me saying, Lady Beckett you should retire for you have a long day tomorrow. You shall need all your strength and must be brave for your husband’s sake. All of England’s eyes shall be upon you and this funeral.”

And impressions are very important in this instance. We must have England on our side at all costs. I shall not allow you to ruin all that I have planned.

“If you like…I can escort you to your room?”

OOC: Sorry if this sucked. Going to take some time to get back into my writing rhythm again lol

Her reasons for wanting toe send Gabriel away increased as she heard his words. He needed to realize that even though he was here now that he could always be replaced. If she was lucky then Gabriel wouldn’t notice just yet how much she really didn’t trust him until it was too late for him to do anything to convince her otherwise. However, she didn’t know exactly how long she would be able to handle the fact that she no longer believed that Gabriel respected her cousin.

And, who knows what else he was trying to me on. Why should I believe anything that he tells me.

As she thought that, Silvia raised her hand and ran it through her hair. All she cared about at the moment was the fact that things were running exactly how smoothly as she wanted them to. Her husband deserved the very best for his service to the ones who sent him to his death. “Just as long as I don’t have to worry about Jack Sparrow or Elizabeth Turner ruining everything.” As she said those words, Silvia closed her eyes for a brief moment. Even if neither one of them decided to do so, she was still going to play ‘send Gabriel to Tortuga’ and hope that some random pirate would get lucky and rid her of the problem that she believed was right in front of her. She was getting tired of allowing this man near her children, especially when she didn’t trust him around them.

And, I will kill you myself Gabriel Pennington, if you prove to be any sort of threat to them.

Even as she heard his words about retiring, Silvia kept her hands raised over the keys of the piano. She smiled to herself, before she started to play a cold melancholy melody. Sleep, how dare he tell her to do such a thing, especially when she was still having that dream of Cutler’s death, of the faces of those that she wanted to destroy, and of things that she couldn’t make any sense of? She would not explain why she couldn’t…more like wouldn’t go to sleep. As she finally stopped playing, Silvia turned to look at Gabriel once more.

“I shall retire shortly, Sir Pennington. You do not need to worry about such a thing. However, before I do so, I will make sure that my children are safe in their beds So, I doubt that you wish to bore yourself with such things.”

And, I will be sleeping in the study. It does not seems right to sleep in my bed without Cutler beside me.

She then frowned deeply. “That is quite unnecessary, I am capable of seeing myself to my room.” She didn’t add that she would never allow him to step one foot inside of her bedroom, and if he ever did such a thing with or without her knowledge that she would find some way to slip one of her cousin’s many poisons in his drink.

Even though Gabriel belonged to another he was still a man which is why he had to shift slightly as Silvia ran her hands through her long hair. Oh yes, he could completely understand just why Cutler Beckett had chosen her for his wife. She was lovely and yet had the sharp tongue which made her even more attractive in his eyes. If there was one thing he liked it was a female with fire and not some quiet innocent little girl. Although corrupting an innocent Christian girl did possess its qualities and temptations.

Perhaps I can do the same for you Lady Beckett? Show why Cutler Beckett was not worthy of you?

“I assure you that you have nothing to worry on, Lady Beckett. As I stated preparations are being made to ensure that no piracy shall threaten the funeral. Your…cousin has taught me well in these matters.”

Oh must you play such a depressing piece? There is already enough sadness in this estate echoing throughout its halls.

“Oh on the contrary, Lady Beckett. It would be my privilege to make certain that your children are safe in their beds. After all, they are important to the lineage are they not? Even though Lord Cutler Beckett is deceased..” Gabriel then crossed himself. “May he rest in peace; he shall live on through his children. And…of course I shall make certain that extra protection is placed for them due to any enemies that may wish harm upon them from some kind of revenge.”

I of course have another plan but shall present that to you at another time.

“Of course, Lady Beckett,” he replied with a graceful bow. “I was merely concerned for your safety as these are now dangerous times. If….you require nothing more of me, I shall bid you good evening.”

Oh, why couldn’t this man just simply disappear?

As that thought went through her head, Silvia was reminded of the reason of why she allowed herself to associate with this man. It was simply because at the moment, he was needed…until such a time when she was able to find a replacement for him. After all, only her cousin knew that she didn’t fully trust this man. She wasn’t that stupid, unlike some of the others that he had worked with in the past. She just had to wait for this man to slip up, and prove that she was right to not trust him.

A part of her though hated the fact that she even had to pretend that she trusted him, when only she knew that she didn’t. She couldn’t. Not until she was able to find out the full details of why it had been her husband who had been ordered to put his life in danger.

In chess you must remain three steps ahead of your opponent. It goes the same way with life. You must be able to figure out your enemies’ next move before they are even allowed to make it.

“If they do, then it will only be you who are to blame, seeing as though I am trusting you with those preparations. One pirate, Sir Pennington…just one, and I will never forgive you for allowing them to ruin my husband’s funeral.”

After saying that, she let out a brief sigh. She still had no idea on how she was going to handle the plans for her cousin’s funeral, seeing as though she was certain that he would come back and haunt her if she held the same kind of funeral that she was going to hold for Cutler. Not to mention that she was still slightly tempted to just toss her cousin’s body into the sea. Oh wait, doing that would probably have her husband doing that instead. She didn’t exactly see why she had to show honor to the man who allowed her husband to die.

As she heard his words about going near her children, Silvia was lucky that she was still turned away from him, because her eyes narrowed in anger, and she had to stop herself from reason for the weapon that she knew was nearby. She would die before placing the safety of her children in this man’s hands.

Stay away from my children!

Silvia had to stop herself from shouting that, only because it would show that she wanted him nowhere near her children. More like, she didn’t trust him to not to cause them any harm. She didn’t want him close to her children, until she was certain that she could trust him, and that was something that she was certain would be a long time coming. Besides, it was a mother’s job to protect her children from anyone who would dare try to cause them harm. Soon, she would end up showing everyone that she was not someone to cross.

“There is no need to trouble yourself to check on them. They have just lost their father, I believe that it is best for them to be around their mother. When and if it appears that they are in danger…only then will I plan to send them somewhere for their safety, and it will be a place of my choosing. Those pirates will not touch them with their evil.” She then smiled to herself when he said that he would take his leave. She was still hoping that she would be able to order him to go to Tortuga. Just to see if he would be able to return unharmed.

“I have no further use for you this evening, Sir Pennington. So, have a pleasant night.” As she said those words, she was instead hoping that Cutler would haunt him in his dreams, and also knew that this man should count himself lucky that she had decided not to shoot him, with the hidden pistol that was close by.

“As I have said, Lady Beckett NO pirate shall set foot at your husband’s funeral,” Gabriel replied trying to keep his composure. “I would hope that you would trust your late husband’s choice in appointing me. For if you question it, do you not question him as well? I would certainly hope not. I stand here in Lord Beckett’s place and share his hatred for pirates not to mention I have some of the best men at my disposal. They shall be instructed to kill upon sight. Lord Beckett’s funeral shall not be desecrated. You have my word.”

I am growing tired of you questioning my abilities, Lady Beckett. I am only putting up with you until I am able to arrange things into place. Then you shall respect and listen to me if you value your precious life or you shall join your husband in the hereafter.

“I do believe that you are right, Lady Beckett. Of course it must be difficult for children to overcome the loss of their father. Of course you are fortunate that it happened when they were so young rather than when they were older. It shall give you ample time to come up with a story…that is if you wish it of course. That is something that I shall leave to you. Just make certain that you still seek their protection as I have suggested.”

A bounty hunter would make quite a fee for the children of Lord Beckett and delivering them to the pirates. Or anyone would for the right price.

“Then I shall indeed bid you good evening,” Gabriel replied with another graceful bow. “I hope that you shall have a restful sleep and I shall return in the morning.” He then turned and headed out of the room and to the door. As he headed to his horse, he kept thinking of how he could not wait until Lord Beckett’s funeral was over and he could start putting his plan into place.
